There are so many complications about this day on the calendar. We have expectations. I could write paragraphs about loves found, loves lost, the loves in my life, the people I love who are no longer here, the but in the end this is what I believe….despite all the romantic hype it’s really just a day on which we take time to tell the people who are important to us that they have a place in our hearts and that we are thankful for them in our lives, that we appreciate their presence beside us.
This is a picture of a friend’s son and granddaughter, taken before his latest deployment. This isn’t the first time he’s been sent overseas when his country has asked him to but it’s the first one in which this little girl is aware enough to miss her daddy. She’s too young to understand but she knows he’s not in her daily life right now. She knows her first love is gone.
Today let’s keep in mind all those families who are apart, wether deployed or because of other life circumstances.
And if the valentines in your life are nearby, let them know you’re glad they’re walking beside you. It can be as simple as that.
