When WordPress (the platform I use for blogging) announced last week that the Daily Post feature would be going away I have to admit to feeling abandoned.
I’ve published 351 blog posts since November of 2011 and the vast majority of those have been in response to The Weekly Photo Challenge that is sponsored by the Daily Post. When something becomes ingrained in my routine I am very resistant to it going away, so for the majority of this past week the fabric of my life has felt a bit twisted and without anchor.
This morning I’m feeling more than a little bit chagrined and embarrassed by that reaction because in just my little corner of the world the following things have happened within the last twenty-four hours:
Yesterday my sweet daughter-in-law, a high school teacher in North Carolina, was texting my son from the inside of a cabinet while her school was in a Code Red lockdown, to tell him she loved him, not knowing if the shooter was active and if she would survive the day.
This morning, locally, a wife wakes up to a new reality (if she went to sleep at all last night) and the knowledge that she will be unexpectedly burying her husband in a few days.
All over the world many people struggle with great sadness and with much adversity.
There are other photo challenges out there. It’s time for me to get a grip and remember what is really important in life.
Even on those days when we feel abandoned, twisted, or trapped it does us well to remember that we are loved.
Please know that you are. Especially when it doesn’t seem obvious.
Great read! Check out my blog at https://rubycardinal.blog like/follow please 😃

I feel moved by you sharing what comes up for you with the Weekly Photo Challenge coming to an end, how meaningful it has been for you and at the same time the awareness, care and compassion you hold for others and what they are going through. It reminds me of how we can simultaneously hold with gentleness what we and others experience. That one does not exclude or diminish the other. Thank you, and I look forward to following your posts.
