About Me

IMG_9721 - Version 2

I’m a wife of 40 years, a mother to three sons, a grandmother, a friend, a military spouse, a paper crafter and a photographer, among other things, but not always necessarily in that order.  My husband just retired after 35 years of service in the Air Force and we now live in Shreveport, LA but I originated in Cincinnati, Ohio and have called many places home over the years.

I would be remiss if I failed to mention that my sons have brought wonderful women into my life.  May God always bless Grace, Angie and Kayla with patience!

    • Thanks for the comment and for visiting and getting to know me through my blog. Human connection is a good thing and I love how our worlds expand through our blog posts. I have “met” many people outside the scope of my normal world through WordPress.

    • Thanks Dorothy! I love the Black Hills Works and the Suzie Cappa Art Center and all that all of you do for the people you serve. I only lived in Rapid for two years but it will always remain in my heart as a very special place. Hopefully I will always be able to make frequent visits back to visit friends and the Art Center! Thanks for reading my blog!

  2. Bonjour Julie,

Thankyou for following my blog, l have only been at it since May so need as much encouragement as l can get. Your blog is so personal l feel like l am intruding into your life. The photographs and writing are all from the heart and the quality of some of the pictures is first class. Your picture of Lolo and Xander was particularly poignant. Through your work we are able to visit places and people that otherwise would be unknown to us.

    Thankyou and kind regards

    • Thanks for taking the time to stop by and leave a comment Dan. They are very much appreciated! I still consider myself “new” at this and started doing it mainly to stretch my photography horizons and reawaken an old love of writing. I also enjoy the way it connects me to a wider world.
Looking forward to seeing your posts,

  3. I grew up in the military…. army. My father retired in 1964 I think…..when I was about 15. I just read and enjoyed your bathrobe post. I look forward to exploring your blog some more.

    • Thank you! Our military family is a relatively small one in that it’s an instant connection. My kids will tell you that they also served and I believe that to be true. My husband often told groups of people that while the military member volunteered to serve, the families are drafted and their sacrifice is no less. I’m also delving into your blog….looking forward to finding out about you!

      • My mother loved being able to travel. I think she loved everything about it other than missing the opportunity to build a pension. As an introvert it was very hard on me. Why bother making friends when either you left or they did. I have no idea what my brothers experience was like. I like your framing it that we were drafted!

I was introduced to you through my friend at chosenperspectives.

  4. Karina, I get that being a military brat is difficult, esp. if you are in introvert. My husband and I had three sons and they all reacted differently. The one I thought was the happiest, always with a smile on his face and light in his eyes, has dealt with anxiety as an adult…all stemming back to being uprooted year after year. We openly talk about these kind of issues now with our active duty families and I hope some of it is being dealt with as it happens but back then the connections had not been made.

I’m glad your friend at chosenperspectives connected us! I just recently found her blog and loved the dolphin story.

  5. Hi, I like your page really much! Style, content and pictures are gorgeous!
May I have one question? I saw the “Following via e-mail-button” on the top of the article, right hand side. How did you manage this? I searched a long time for a way to integrate this on my blog but without success!
    Thank you in advance,
    Regards, Steffie

    • Hi Steffie! Thanks for finding me, for your kind words, and for following my blog! To add the “following via e-mail button go to your Dashboard, click on Appearances, then Widgets and you should be able to find the one that says Follow Me to add to the sidebar on your blog. Let me know if that doesn’t work and I’ll try to figure it out in more detail!
