We’ve known it was on the horizon for well over a year now but this week it became “no kidding this is really going to happen” when my husband’s retirement from the military was announced in an email.

Seeing it on my computer screen was like hitting a wall.  It was suddenly a much bigger reality than it was just the day before.

After 35 years of going where the Air Force told us to go and him doing what the Air Force told him to do, we suddenly have choices.  What an exhilarating thought.  What a scary thought.

Thankfully, we know a whole lot of people who are already on the other side. They all assure us that life is very, very good over there.  Even if it does seem a bit intimidating from where we stand today.

I have to admit that I felt a bit like this for most of the day on Tuesday.   I’m away from home so Jim and I didn’t get to experience the news together, and it’s Lent, so the timing wasn’t good for a glass of wine.

In the words of my friend Annie….onward!  Let’s see what the rest of our lives will reveal and the places we’ll go!
