This photo challenge involved taking the same shot from both a horizontal and a vertical perspective. I seldom do that, almost always feeling more comfortable with, and shooting, horizontally. Makes me wonder if that says something about my personality!
In any case, my first interpretation is the literal.
And then the horizontal….
When I orient my camera vertically I tend to tell the whole story, when I turn the viewfinder horizontally I tend to get closer and go for the details.
So I tried this and got the same result.
Eventually I took a different approach altogether.
First I looked up.
Then I looked down.
This, however, was my favorite shot of the day!
Through all of the “one shot, two ways” exercises of shooting this week, it occurs to me that it wasn’t really a lesson in seeing my images in different ways. I like to think I do that all the time anyway. Maybe not from a vertical and horizontal viewpoint but definitely from all sides, from above and from below, from close in and far away.
What I ended up taking away from this challenge was that I need to be looking at everything in life from different perspectives, rather than judging only from where I find myself originally standing, camera in hand, or not.
Hi Julanne, What a great idea. I have been doing some pinhole images shooting the same space with a similar approach doing double exposures and enjoying the results. I agree with your favorite, its mine too. xoxo

I loved the last one best!

Thanks Jeanie. That was a “photo god” kind of moment. I saw it happening and was just hoping no one else would get on that escalator before I was able to get the shot. Takes a little longer to set up with the iPhone. I’m faster with my Rebel!

Always great to hear from you Melanie. I took a pinhole workshop when I was in college with Eric Renner. Great memories. Hoping to get more photography in once Jim and I move to Nebraska and he isn’t a Commander anymore!
