Our movers will be here three months from today, packing us up for our last move connected with the military life we’ve lived for the last 35 years.  I need to get rid of close to 8000 pounds of household goods and furniture between now and then, which translates into me going through absolutely everything we own and making a decision about it.  In the meantime I need to plan a retirement party, which is pretty much like planning a small wedding.

So what am I doing while my “to do” list calls my name on this misty evening while my husband is away?

I’m painting with light, of course.

The photo challenge from WordPress this week is blur.

I don’t do blur.

I’ve worn corrective lenses since I was seven.  Blur is what I see when I don’t have them on/in.  It’s what I see if I wake up in the middle of the night and the first thing in the morning.  It makes me uncomfortable.  Blur is disorienting.

As a result I avoid blur in my photos.  It makes my head hurt.

All week I’ve tried and failed to take pictures with blur but tonight I needed an excuse to NOT purge my house and so I tackled the challenge with one of my favorite pieces of yard art…my bottle tree.

I had a blast.

In the process, I made peace with blur.

I may have had just a little too much fun.  I couldn’t stop taking pictures and as the neighbors came home from work I may have looked a bit odd out there in the rain, making strange gestures with my camera and obsessing over the lights on my bottle tree.  Oh well, I’m moving soon anyway…..and being eccentric is sometimes a good thing.

Here are two more images from this past week.  They were an attempt at blur but I only managed to give you an out-of-focus background.  Although I’m not sure they define the challenge, they make me happy.
