This photo challenge involved taking the same shot from both a horizontal and a vertical perspective. I seldom do that, almost always feeling more comfortable with, and shooting, horizontally. Makes me wonder if that says something about my personality!
In any case, my first interpretation is the literal.
And then the horizontal….
When I orient my camera vertically I tend to tell the whole story, when I turn the viewfinder horizontally I tend to get closer and go for the details.
So I tried this and got the same result.
Eventually I took a different approach altogether.
First I looked up.
Then I looked down.
This, however, was my favorite shot of the day!
Through all of the “one shot, two ways” exercises of shooting this week, it occurs to me that it wasn’t really a lesson in seeing my images in different ways. I like to think I do that all the time anyway. Maybe not from a vertical and horizontal viewpoint but definitely from all sides, from above and from below, from close in and far away.
What I ended up taking away from this challenge was that I need to be looking at everything in life from different perspectives, rather than judging only from where I find myself originally standing, camera in hand, or not.
